    Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs for short) serve our parish by assisting the priest with the care and distribution of the Eucharist. There are two designations of EM: those that serve during mass, assisting with distribution during the Communion Rite and those who have undergone additional training to make home and hospital visits to administer Holy Communion outside of a liturgical setting.

   Persons interested in becoming EMs should contact the parish. As this is an important ministry in the Church, especially as the number of priests becomes increasingly limited. However, it should be stressed that to be an EM is a tremendous privilege for a lay person and not something that should be taken lightly. EMs should be practicing Catholics in good standing with know known impediments that would prevent them from physically or spiritually serving in this capacity. Ultimately, the pastor recommends qualified individuals to the bishop. Trainings typically occur twice a year, in the fall and spring.

   Once trained and commissioned, EMs can then be placed on a schedule for ministering.
